My name is Paula Gallon and I am a HCPC registered dietitian. I have worked in the NHS for over 13 years, most recently as a Diabetes Specialist Dietitian, helping people make changes that work for them.
My main area of specialisation is Diabetes including diabetes prevention, type 2 diabetes and heart health. I can help you to understand your condition and its treatment, and what changes to your diet and lifestyle will work for you.
I also specialise in body positive approaches to diet and lifestyle including intuitive eating and health at every size. If you have found that restrictive diet and exercise programs have left you tired and disillusioned, I can support you to make personalised healthy lifestyle changes that work for you.
I can also help you if you have lost weight and would like advice on healthy ways to regain it.
I believe changes should be practical and fit in with your lifestyle and family, and that you shouldn't have to stop doing the things that you enjoy. But you need the information to make the right choices for you and advice should be based on the evidence for what works.
Dietitians are trained to look at the scientific evidence on diet and lifestyle and translate it into straight forward, practical advice that works.
I have extensive experience working with people with Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease and Weight loss from many different backgrounds one to one in diabetes clinics and also in groups.
I was the founding education or Solihull's Sizewise weight management program and was lead for our Diabetes X-PERT and X-PERT Insulin courses for which we won a prestigious national award for patient experience. These are fun, interactive courses that increase knowledge and skills and help people with Diabetes to make informed lifestyle choices to manage their blood glucose levels more effectively. Feedback from these groups included:
"Every week was a revelation, giving really helpful advice to help us get the full benefits of recommendations."
"It was brilliant, learned a lot, fun and easy to understand."
"Thank you very much for arranging this course, it has helped me a great deal to understand why I have to take insulin and how it works."
"I learned an awful lot and came away feeling really positive and happier."
Sadly group education courses are not running at the moment due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but I endeavour to bring the ethos and practical skills from these sessions into my one to one teaching.
I also have extensive experience educating health and care professionals in the latest evidence based advice on diet and lifestyle in diabetes care, cardiovascular health, nutrition support and weight management, and producing educational resources including newsletters and training materials.
I have a great deal of experience in writing patient literature, producing the majority of patient literature on diabetes in my previous role. I am a member of the Diabetes Specialist Group of the British Dietetic Association and have written reviews and patient literature for them, and a professional member of the Diabetes UK.
I am currently offering online video consultations in the comfort of your own home, at a time that suits you.
I have recently been featured in the Kenilworth Nub News Article Up Close with Paula Gallon Dietitian: helping people make their own choices.
